MAKE-UP DATE ANNOUNCED FOR MSCS

by Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN - July 18, 2008. Officials of the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with Union County Speedway Promoter Tom Wieck to reschedule the MSCS race rained out at the speedway on July 3rd. The new date will be August 22nd which is a Friday night. The purse will be the same as announced for the original date. The feature will be for 25 laps paying $2,000 to win and $200 to start.

The new August 22nd date provides fans and race teams a weekend of exciting non-wing sprint car racing. A race at Twin Cities Speedway for the next night August 23rd was already on the schedule. After Friday nights race everyone can plan to move on down to Twin Cities Speedway for another $2,000 to win show. Both tracks are 3/8s mile tracks. The driving distance between Liberty and North Vernon, IN, is about 75 miles. For travelers it is virtually one trip
for two nights of racing!

The MSCS traveling series has not raced at Union County Speedway since 2005. Zac Osborn led Daron Clayton and Alex Shanks to the finish line that particular night. Upon arrival this year the touring field of MSCS drivers are expected to find, match-up with, and race a number of drivers who concentrate on running tracks in the surrounding area. The resulting competition will be heads up and
wheel to wheel.

The make-up date puts Southeastern Indiana tracks under the spotlight with half of the final eight events on the MSCS schedule now set for the region. Union County Speedway also has a second MSCS date on Friday September 12th. The MSCS season ends with the Lawrenceburg Nationals on October 4th.

HALFWAY

by Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN - July 12, 2008. The mid point on the 2008 calendar was reached recently during the week that June became July. It was also scheduled to be the mid point in completing the 2008 Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series schedule. The June 28th date at Tri-State Speedway was to have been the eighth date on the original 16 race schedule. That event was held but it was only the sixth race to actually be conducted. Races at Brownstown, IN, and Jacksonville, IL, could not be held due to rain. Rainfall also took out the July 3rd event at Union County Speedway. So far 1/3 of the season’s races have fallen victim to rainfall.

The rained out programs have had an affect on some of the sponsorship packages offered this season. The Hard Luck Get a Grip on Dirt Award sponsored by Gamesters, the manufacturer of the GRP Chassis, was to be drawn for following the 7th race of the season. The “seventh race” should have happened by mid season. It is coming up next! With six races in the books only one more race remains for drivers who have encountered hard luck to enter the drawing. Gamester will provide a certificate worth a $500 discount on the purchase of a new chassis from them. Drivers who have had frames damaged in MSCS crashes are reminded to get their entries filled out and deposited in the box on the sign-in table. It is each driver’s responsibility to complete the entry form.

The additional GRP Chassis Award for 2008 requires that drivers must have been in competition in at least 60% of the races held with a 9th appearance required before individual entries could be accepted. If one or more of the rained out races are rescheduled and made up or replaced with a new date at another track, the actual number of races required could be affected. That change will be announced at a driver’s meeting once it is clear if the requirement is going to be affected.

One award scheduled to be awarded at mid season has been sent out. Driver A.J. Anderson of Stateline, IN, earned the Holiday World & Splash’in Safari tickets compliments of the amusement park at Santa Claus, IN. This is the first year the park has participated! As announced in May the tickets were awarded to the driver who finished highest in the feature after transferring by winning the B-main that night. Anderson was 7th in the MSCS Feature after winning the B-Main on May 25th.

Chase Stockon started off the season by finishing ninth in the feature at Terre Haute after winning the B. Jerry Ruble, Ricky Williams, and Hud Cone also won B-Mains this season to transfer. A.J. Anderson and Chase Stockon were the only two to race their way up into the top ten that same night. All these drivers have been in the Top Ten in points in this or past seasons which testifies to how tough the competition can be during the heats and the B-Main to make the feature on any given night.

RAIN PREVAILS AGAIN AT UNION COUNTY

by Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN. July 3, 2008. The MSCS races scheduled for Thursday evening at the Union County Speedway have been cancelled due to rainfall during the morning hours. The decision was made about 11:15 A. M. by track promoter Tom Wieck and MSCS officials were notified in route to the speedway.

This is the 8th rain-out of the season for the track and the third time this season that a program has been washed out for the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series.Union County Speedway appears on the MSCS schedule again this season with a race set for Friday Sept. 12th. HAUBSTADT ANOTHER VICTORY FOR STANBROUGH

by Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN- June 28, 2006. Jon Stanbrough collected another Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car feature win Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway. The Brownsburg, IN, sprint car competitor has won 3 of the 4 MSCS features held at the track this season. This time it was from the pole of the front row he shared with A.J. Anderson. Following a 4 wide salute to the fans to the accompaniment of a blitz of Sgt. Pepper’s fireworks the 2 drivers blasted into the first turn with Anderson diving to the inside and Stanbrough roaring by and into the lead. Stanbrough led for the entire 25 lap distance.

In the post race interview Stanbrough noted that “the car was flawless.” This he attributed to the crew of the Fox Brothers Racing Team sponsored by Jarvis Enterprises and Fatheadz.com. The car is owned by Brad and Steve Fox.

Defending MSCS Champion Kyle Cummins of Princeton, IN, sailed to a second place finish in the feature. Cummins was in the hunt running third and fourth until the 14th lap when he moved into second. A.J. Anderson of Stateline, IN, took third. Fourth went to Jeff Bland Jr. and Danny Holtsclaw was fifth.

Finishing out the top ten in order were Chris Windom, Robert Ballou, Chris Urish, Blake Fitzpatrick, and Hunter Schuerenberg. Schuerenberg had worked his way up to second by lap 19 when he drew a yellow flag as the car stopped in turn four and he had to restart on the tail. Daron Clayton was running as high as fourth before retiring with damage to the car during a red flag when Kenny Biro hit the wall and rolled his car over. Rookie Ricky Williams was the Wilwood Tuff Brakes of the Race recipient.

A wide cushion developed in the turns during the feature. Drivers still found room to pass and it served some of the drivers engineering slide jobs very well and collected others upsetting their plans to gain a position. Three of the 21 starters moved up through the field to improve their positions by 11 spots each. Jeff Bland Jr., Robert Ballou, and Blake Fitzpatrick provided lots of forward
mobility. Bland was named the Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race due to his having the higher finish.

Heat racing produced 5 winners. They were Holtsclaw, Stanbrough, Cummins, Anderson, and Cole Whitt. Whitt won the trouble laden fifth heat. However in the process he lost an engine and had to withdraw from the feature. He would have started on the pole. Mike Hess won the C-Main. Hud Cone won the B-Main. With 41 cars on hand for the race the B was loaded with name drivers. Several of the top ten MSCS drivers missed the show due to the keen competition or from damage to cars from being involved in an accident. Two drivers got upside down. Flips involving Chad Boat and Kevin Thomas Jr. brought about red flag conditions.

The MSCS Sprints will now move on to Union County Speedway in Liberty, IN, for a Thursday night July 3rd appearance. The date will mark the first of two MSCS races to be held there this season. Tri-State Speedway will host the WoO Sprints on July 6th and the USAC Sprints on July 19th before the MSCS Sprints return for the Hoosier Sprint Nationals on August 2nd.

BALLOU IS THE MPHG G-FORCE AT PADUCAH

by Eldon Butcher

June 27th, 2008-Paducah, KY. Robert Ballou of Camby, IN, captured the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car feature Friday night on the sweeping, high banks of Paducah International Speedway. Ballou’s MPHG Promotions Maxim entry which is sponsored by Behavior Consultants, J.C. Plew Inc., and Builders Solutions Alliance was the winning machine. The combination produced a fourth MSCS career victory for Ballou.

Robert Ballou took the lead from Daron Clayton on the 11th lap after a spirited duel that spanned the 10 previous laps. Both drivers brushed the wall in succession in exiting turn two during the heat of that battle. After that it was apparent that Clayton’s car was not handling as well and he eventually slipped back out of the top ten.

Hud Cone of Oakland City, IN, was quick to take advantage of a sixth place starting position. He was in second by lap thirteen and would be the driver to chase Ballou to the finish line. Kyle Cummins was also passing cars as another race mover The Princeton, IN, driver placed third after starting 12th on the 24 car field. Chad Boespflug and Kenny Biro rounded out the top five to make the race a sweep for Hoosierland drivers.

Competition began in the heats and produced similar match-ups in the feature with different outcomes. Rookie Ricky Williams won the first heat from the pole over Kenny Biro. The two would battle to the finish line again in the feature with Biro getting fifth and Williams sixth. Their positions were reversed with Biro ahead in the final encounter.

Robert Ballou took the second heat over Thomas “On Top” Meseraull. Meseraull entered the event as the season points leader for the MSCS series. Rookie Coleman Gulick was third. That also reversed in the feature with Gulick eighth and Meseraull ninth.

Daron Clayton won the third heat after a challenge from John Memmer flamed out with only a lap to go. Repairs were made to the Memmer sprint and again the two would finish one behind the other in the feature but Memmer would be tenth. Memmer’s drive from the very back of the pack would earn him the MSCS-Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race. He whizzed by 14 other cars and drivers. Clayton thereby earned the Wilwood tuff Brakes Award.

Three time MSCS Champion Alex Shanks was the other driver who finished in the top ten. Shanks would finish seventh in his first appearance of this season. He was teamed with another Southern Illinois driver Shane Wade in the 39w and 74 entries .

The feature was only slowed three times by yellow flags. Those were for spins by John Irvin and Patrick Budde plus some contact on lap 22 which sent Bret Mellenberndt into the infield across the corner of the Micro Sprint track. Kyle Wissmiller also retired to the pits with a flat left rear tire during the last caution. A heat race incident nearly sidelined Chris Windom. Windom bicycled in turn four before spinning. Although he was able to join the feature line-up he pulled out immediately.

CLAYTON REPEATS IN KISS-MSCS CONTEST

by Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN - June 7, 2008. Daron Clayton, of Indianapolis, IN, won the 30 lap KISS - MSCS feature race Saturday night at Tri- State Speedway. The event was the fourth of six King of Indiana Sprint Series races scheduled for 2008. Clayton led every lap after starting on the pole in the 20 car feature field. For him the victory was a repeat of last year’s victory in the first ever KISS - MSCS Match-up at the speedway.

For Clayton it was his third trip to the quarter mile oval this season in MSCS competition. The first two did not produce a victory. Daron Clayton put the win into words at the finish line trophy presentation. “The third time was charm. This is probably the best car that I’ve driven around this race track. It was getting some traction!” That car was the R & B Racing DRC/Foxco sprinter owned by Roger and Barb Tapy. The primary sponsor is Truckers 24 Hour Road Service.

The runner-up spot in the feature was occupied by three different drivers beginning with Kyle Cummins, Hud Cone, and then Jon Stanbrough. Cone held the spot until lap 17. Stanbrough who had started fifth then moved into the second spot. By then Clayton was finding ample traffic to lap and still turning some quick times. Stanbrough broke through traffic on the final lap but Clayton had the margin he needed for the victory. Jeff Bland Jr. took third after making steady progress in some tough competition. Hud Cone was fourth, and Mitch Wissmiller was fifth.

Kyle Cummins headed up the second five at the finish. He was followed by Blake Fitzpatrick, Hunter Schuerenberg, Sammy Imel, and John Memmer. The average age of those five drivers figures at a youthful 17.6 years. Schuerenberg made one of his patented runs after skidding to a stop between turns three and four to avoid a collision. He rejoined the field at the back and worked his way up into the top ten.

Ricky Williams of Clinton, OH, finished 11th in the A-Main which was good enough to be named the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award recipient. He was also the MSCS-Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race. Williams also won the B-Main in a fantastic three wide dogfight that became a virtual Young Guns Dash lasting 12 laps. Chase Stockon finished second, Kevin Thomas Jr. was third, and Arin McIntosh was fourth to take the last transfer spot to the feature.

In other preliminary action Jeff Bland Jr., Jon Stanbrough, A.J. Anderson, and Hud Cone won the 4 qualifying heats. The third heat race brought its’ share of yellows and reds. Donny Brackett cleared the guardrails and took out a billboard in turn one after apparently breaking an axel. He crawled out uninjured. The car was retrieved along the outside of the track. MSCS Points leader Thomas Meseraull lost an engine in the same heat and his racing was over early.

Although it was sunny and clear at the track weather played a role . Thirty-three cars finally arrived to compete in what may have been the only sprint car race in the state of Indiana Saturday. Flooded roads and closed sections of highways to the North in the state made travel difficult with some teams making the trip arriving later than usual.

TOO WET AT MORGAN COUNTY

by Eldon Butcher

June 5, 2008. The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series race scheduled for the Morgan County Speedway Friday June 6th has been cancelled. B & K Promotions informed MSCS Officials on Thursday that 7 inches of rain had already fallen this week with standing water accumulating on the grounds.

An on site inspection at the track Thursday revealed that the surrounding half mile, front stretch, turns, and pits were already flooded. With forecasts for more rain including chances of severe weather again Friday, the promoters made the decision to cancel the race program and provide fans and race teams advance notice and the added time and opportunity to change plans.

The MSCS Sprints are still scheduled to do battle this weekend as the Indiana King of Sprints Series rolls into Tri-State Speedway Saturday night. That program is set to showcase the outstanding driving talent from the Hoosier State as well as the entire Midwest and beyond. The MSCS drivers will meet the KISS drivers wheel to wheel in one big show. A number of drivers are already active in both organizations.

The Morgan County Speedway will resume action on Friday June 13th. Further information on that program and the latest news can be found on their website at morgancountyspeedway.com.

STANBROUGH TWO FOR TWO AT TRI-STATE

by Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN. - May 25, 2008. Jon Stanbrough won the $3,000 top prize at Tri-State Speedway on Sunday night of Memorial Day Weekend . The racing program featured the second appearance this season of the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series. For Stanbrough it was his second MSCS feature win in as many appearances to go two for two at the Speedway and in MSCS competition this season.

Jon Stanbrough started third in the 21 car field and took the lead on lap 18. The event brought out only one yellow flag. Three cars tangled in turn two of lap three with Kyle Cummins having the only car that needed a hook. Nineteen cars would finish the race. It was non stop green flag racing the rest of the way!

In victory lane the Brownsburg, IN, veteran turned questions into praise for the Fox Brothers Racing Team. “They worked real hard on the car to give me something that looks good out there. My job is to get in there and turn the wheel.” Sponsors for the team include Jarvis Enterprises, Fat Headz, and Advance Racing Systems.

Brady Short of Bedford, IN, finished second in the contest driving the Short Racing Indiana Stoneworks sprinter.. Short started the feature just behind Stanbrough to give the eventual winner “a run for the money.” He chased Stanbrough as they passed the other frontrunners and entered lapped traffic but would settle for second at the end of 30 laps.

Hunter Schuerenberg finished third. The Sikeston, MO, driver was on a mission after a crash in turn two at the beginning of the second heat sent him to the C-Main. Hunter won that to transfer to the 8th row of the 20 car B-Main with the top four getting the final transfers to the feature. A.J. Anderson started on the pole and led every lap to win the B. Schuerenberg was second flashing by car after car in the process. In the A Schuerenberg went to work again turning an 18th starting position into a respectable third place finish. The feat earned him the MSCS- Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race.

Levi Jones was fourth in the team car to Schuerenberg. Jones ran as high as second during the feature. The two drivers were in the Jeff Walker owned Jam It In Storage machines. Daron Clayton finished fifth. Clayton set a torrid pace in leading the first 17 laps of the feature before encountering brake problems. Sixth through tenth spots went to Robert Ballou, A.J. Anderson, Jeff Bland Jr, Kyle Wissmiller, and Hud Cone. Dustin Morgan was the Wilwood Tuff Brakes winner for this show with an 11th place finish.

The four qualifying heats produced victories for Levi Jones, Kyle Wissmiller, Daron Clayton, and Jon Stanbrough. Forty sprinters occupied the pits!

………………………..

The next MSCS event is set for the Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, IL. The race is the first of two events for MSCS the weekend of June 6th and 7th. After running Friday at Morgan County, the MSCS sprints will return to Tri-State Speedway Saturday night to match-up with the KISS Series and provide race fans with a great opportunity to see the very best drivers of both circuits in competition together on the same track- the same night- for the only time this season.

STANBROUGH TOPS AT TRI-STATE OPENER

by Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN - May 10, 2008. Sprint car driver Jon Stanbrough of Brownsburg, IN, drove to victory Saturday night in the opening event for the season at the Tri-State Speedway. He piloted the Fox Brothers DRC Sprinter sponsored by Jarvis Enterprises, Fatheadz.com, and Advance Racing Systems.

Jon Stanbrough became the second winner in as many shows this season for the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series. The veteran started out side pole and led all but 5 laps of the 30 lapper. The win was worth $3,000 and marked his 5th career win in the series moving him up to 4th on the MSCS All Time Winners List.

The runner-up to Stanbrough in the feature was Chad Boespflug of North Vernon, IN. Boesfflug stayed in the top five throughout the race and moved into second as the leader Daron Clayton dropped off the pace and retired his car to the pits. Boespflug drives for Bob Gatten Motorsports. Clayton had led laps 18 through 21 in quest of another Haubstadt win. Hud Cone finished third, AJ Anderson fourth, and Chase Stockon was fifth. Cone, Anderson, and Stockon moved from back in the pack into contention.

The second five included defending series champion Kyle Cummins, Dickie Gaines, Thomas Meseraull, Kevin Thomas Jr, and Ricky Williams. The feature was eventful. Only 11 of the 20 starters finished the event. Williams was involved in one of the 4 or 5 accidents that interrupted the green flag laps. His car turned over in turn two but officials righted it and he returned to action.

All seven drivers on hand who had MSCS provisional starting spot available made the starting field in the qualifying races. Kevin Thomas Jr. of Cullman, AL, was the MSCS-Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race in finishing 9th after starting nineteenth. The Keizer Wheel Tuff Brakes Award went to Bret Tripplett. Tripplett, from Lincoln, IL, was on the move after starting tail spot and just missed finishing in the top ten in the main.

Chad Boesflug finished just ahead of Daron Clayton in the first heat which started a few minutes early to get a jump on the rain projected to move over the speedway during the evening. The rain moved in with the B-Main winding down causing a delay in the program between the B and the A. Jerry Ruble won the B-Main over 10 other hopefuls. The other two heat races were won by Thomas Meseraull in the Truckers 24 Hr. 10T and Jon Stanbrough. Stanbrough used a last lap pass in a battle with Danny Holtsclaw for his heat win after starting in the last row of the third heat.

In two weeks the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will return to Tri-State Speedway for the annual Memorial Day Weekend race. The event will be held on the May 25th, a Sunday evening, and pay $3,000 to the winner. The defending Memorial weekend winner from 2007 is Daron Clayton.

HOW ABOUT THAT

By Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN - May 9. Chase Stockon could not have drove a more convincing race than he did in capturing the first MSCS-Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race Award for 2008 during Sunday’s competition at the Terre Haute Action Track. The heat race to begin the day under the late afternoon sun spelled disappointment for the Sullivan, IN, driver. He failed to finish high enough to transfer to the A-main. Five others in the 11 car field made the show. Chase would have one last chance to make the field for the feature in the B-main.

The 20 year old driver would line up thirteenth in a field projected to start 22 cars with little promise of actually making the field. It is only an opportunity that the top three finishers in the event could capitalize on. The drivers that almost made it in the heats were up front in the lineup. Chase would need to pass 9 cars in just 12 laps to catch a final transfer spot and overtake and pass a dozen cars to win.

That is exactly what he did. He stormed around the half mile oval to win the B-Main. It turned into an exciting event. The A- Main itself would follow an on track introduction of the 24 drivers who made the show. Chase was introduced 21st. He would start in row eleven. He had everything to gain and very few spots to lose. Ahead lay 30 grueling laps but more points and a chance at a higher payoff with an improved finish. The former MSCS Series 2004 Support Champion has been around the wide turns at Terre Haute before and he would again bring that experience into play. The green flag waved and the crowd’s attention turned to the leaders.

BALLOU MAKES IT THREE IN A ROW IN MSCS COMPETITION
WINS DON SMITH CLASSIC AT TERRE HAUTE

By Eldon Butcher

Terre Haute, IN - May 4th, 2008. The Terre Haute Action Track opened for the season with the Clabber Girl Don Smith Classic presented by Indiana State University. The event held in tribute to former track promoter Don Smith, originally scheduled for Friday evening, was postponed to Sunday afternoon due to storms. Smith was honored in a pre- race ceremony and later presented a special trophy to the winner following the 30 lap feature. The event also marked the return of the Action Track to the Midwest racing scene through the efforts of DHK Promotions LLC. The group had the facility ready for the 42 Hoosier Tire MSCS Sprint teams and the fans that support the series and the track.

Robert Ballou of Camby, IN, won the feature in a spirited contest with Jesse Hockett of Indianapolis, IN. A yellow flag with just 5 laps to go set up the final confrontation. Hockett led at the outset of the race while Ballou worked his way forward. Hockett had started outside pole in the 24 car field while Ballou started back in row six.

Jesse Hockett and Brady Short paced the field for the first third of the event. Ballou caught and passed them to lead from the 14th lap on. Hockett battled to stay close to the leader and was still campaigning using a lower line when the checkered flags ended the chase. Brady Short finished third with a strong run. Damion Gardner and Levi Jones completed a talented top five.

Ballou drives for MPHG Promotions with Jimmy Jones serving as the crew chief. Sponsors include Behavior Consultants, J.C Plew Inc., and Builders Solutions Alliance.

Ballou drove a Maxim sprint with engine power from John Ott. The victory was Ballou’s third in a row during MSCS competition in a winning streak which began last fall.

Drivers finishing sixth through tenth included Mitch Wissmiller, Danny Holtsclaw, Bill Rose, Chase Stockon, and Neil Shepherd. Bill Rose was involved in the crash that shut down the feature on lap 10. At least five drivers were involved as cars collected at the scene, some flipping. Rose was the only driver in the group that was able to make repairs and rejoin the field at the tail.

The group of drivers were battling inside the top ten when the chain reaction accident developed in turn three. Factors included close competition, mechanical parts, a car into the wall, and dust compounded by the glare of the sun which was setting above and beyond the turn three wall. After discussions officials of MSCS and the Action Track decided to go to a brief open red to allow just enough time for the sun to finish setting before continuing. Kenny Biro, Dusty Wright, Daron Clayton, and Ricky Williams were the drivers involved that had cars that were unable to continue racing.

The 42 car field produced a 22 car B-Main that was a terrific race in itself. Chase Stockon of Sullivan, IN, took the event. He started 13th passing 12 cars in 12 laps in a picture perfect performance. He then proceeded to climb through the ranks in the feature finishing ninth after starting 21st. Preliminary heat races were won by Neil Shepherd, Jesse Hockett, Daron Clayton, and Brady Short.

The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will be in action Saturday night May 10th at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. It is the season opener at the track and the feature pays $3,000 to win.

Gamester Racing Products now a new MSCS Sponsor

by Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN.  April 4, 2008.  Gamester Racing Products LLC completed an agreement with the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series to become a contingency sponsor for the 2008 season.  The business is located in Peru, Indiana, and serves as a manufacturer of sprint car frames and bodies.  Several drivers ran a GRP Chassis in MSCS competition last season and more are expected on the circuit this season.

George and Tammy Gamester of Gamester Racing Products, has agreed to become involved with MSCS in a sponsorship role that contributes to the series and its drivers on  two different levels.  Officials at MSCS welcome this new and enthusiastic approach to sponsorship as well as the generous nature of GRP’s offers.

First Gamester Racing Products will provide as a giveaway prize a sprint car frame built by GRP Chassis with a complete sprint car body.  One driver will be the lucky winner of the Gamester‘s GRP Chassis Award for 2008!.  That winner will be determined at a drawing to be held on September 27th at the Haubstadt Hustler Sprint 50.  To be eligible for the drawing a driver must have competed in 60% of the races held at that point in the season.  The GRP chassis and body have a retail value of $2,900.

Once a driver has made enough appearances for the season they must request that their name be added to the list of eligible drivers.  Based on the current race schedule the number required would be nine!  Their name will be put in the box for the drawing.  From that point on the driver must display a GRP decal on both sides of their car.

The purpose of the giveaway is to offer an incentive for drivers to support MSCS shows with regular and/or more frequent appearances.  Full, competitive fields of sprint cars would serve as an instant reward for track promoters and sprint car fans.  And as an additional reward  one of the drivers working to make that possible with regular attendance will win a new GRP sprint car frame and body.  In 2007 14 drivers would have been eligible for the award had it been offered with another 17 drivers just a race appearance or two short of being eligible.  The odds in winning the car are pretty good!

Secondly, GRP will offer a second contingency award to be given away at mid season.  The award will be known as Gamester’s Hard Luck Get a Grip on Dirt Award.  A $500 discount product certificate will be given towards the purchase of a GRP sprint frame with body panels.

The hard luck award offered by GRP will be made to a driver who’s name is drawn from all those filing for and receiving an eligibility ruling from MSCS using an accident report form.   The driver must have also competed in 60 per cent of the races held up to the time of the incident in which he or she had the misfortune of demolishing a car.

The date for the drawing will be announced later and will not be held until after the seventh race of the season.    By GRP providing a sprint car frame and body at a significant savings it is hoped that a driver can get back into competition and reverse some of the ill effects of hard racing and tough luck.

Specific terms of the two GRP contingency sponsorships will be posted at MSCS pit headquarters during each race.  The above information is intended as an announcement and not a full disclosure of the process involved in winning either contingency award.

Sponsors Renew Pacts with MSCS for 2008

by Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN. April 3, 2008. During the off season the MSCS central office has been involved in the process of renewing active sponsors as well as reaching out for new sponsorships. Financial support for the continued operation of the series combined with reward and incentive programs for the drivers creates a solid base from which a traveling organization such as MSCS can operate. Cash
sponsorship allows the series to not only exist but to grow in prominence and expand geographically. Other prizes and various contingency awards motivate the drivers and provide added incentives for each to follow the series from track to track the for entire season.

The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series would like to acknowledge the continued involvement of various sponsors. Hoosier Tire Midwest with offices in Springfield, IL, continues in a chief sponsorship role with MSCS. The series will compete again this season using a spec tire on the right rear of each sprint car. The Hoosier DT-3 is the required tire. MSCS also recommends that Hoosier tires be used on the other 3 corners. Hoosier Racing Tires are designed for Champions. Hoosier will one again serve as the chief sponsor for the MSCS Point Fund which will be paid out to the top drivers following the completion of the season.

AFCO Racing Products in Boonville, IN, will once again be presenting 4 product gift certificates to eligible MSCS drivers at the end of the season. In 2008 drivers are eligible that compete on AFCO shocks and other brands as long as they run with a required AFCO sticker on their cars. The top three drivers plus the highest eligible rookie will split the $500 in certificates with the top prize totaling $200 in AFCO products.

Bell Racing Company will continue in its long time involvement in the series. Two MSCS drivers can look forward to an opportunity to go racing with a new Bell helmet. A $300 certificate towards the purchase of a Bell racing helmet will be presented to the driver that finishes fourth in the MSCS Championship Points Chase. This award will be known as the Bell 4 Safety Award. A second $300 certificate will be awarded to the MSCS Rookie driver that finishes highest in the Rookie Points battle. That award will be known as the Bell Safety First Rookie Award.

Hinchman Racing Uniforms out of Indianapolis has also offered a $500 contingency award to be given at the end of the season to an MSCS participant. The Hinchman MSCS Driver Award will be given towards the procurement of a custom fitted racing uniform.

Keizer Aluminum Wheels of Orange City, Iowa, is offering $1,000 in contingencies which will be sent out the week following each race. These $50 certificates will mark the achievements of the Keizer MSCS Hard Charger of the Race. The driver advancing the most positions in the feature will receive the certificate.

Saldana Racing Products in Brownsburg, IN, will be presenting the winner of each feature a $50 certificate towards the purchase of a radiator, oil tank, or fuel tank. However with this Saldana Winning Driver Award, a driver can only receive one certificate. If a driver should win a second feature the award would go to the next eligible driver with the highest finish.

Wilwood Brakes, headquartered in Camarillo, CA, is the sixth and final continuing sponsor. The Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award will present a $50 redeemable product certificate to the 11th place finisher in each feature held during the 2008 season. Missing the top ten and running in the middle of the pack can make for a tough night. Drivers can always count on new brakes from Wilwood.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL THESE CONTINUING SPONSORS!
