SHORT BECOMES FIFTH DIFFERENT WINNER IN FIVE RACES

Haubstadt, IN - June 17.  Brady Short won his first Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series feature of the season Sunday night at Tri-State Speedway.  The Bedford Blaster collected $3,000 for his winning effort behind the wheel of the Spec powered Maxim sprinter sponsored by Indiana Stone Works and Pottorff Logging.  The car is owned by Don Short.

Brady Short started fifth in the twenty car feature field.  Jeff Bland Jr. and Robert Ballou started on the front row by virtue of the redraw.  Both had won heat races and would prove to be tough passes for drivers attempting to move up.  Ballou grabbed the lead with Bland holding second until lap 11. Short was third by then and made the pass on Bland.  Ballou, who would finish second, led the most laps as he kept the lead until lap 18.  That is when Short took over to become the fifth different winner in five MSCS races.

During the feature the top four or five drivers stayed in close formation.  Veteran Jon Stanbrough caught the front runners on lap 20 after starting 10th.  He almost took an unexpected ride in turn four when his car’s wheels touched those of another.  He landed on all four and continued on to finish third .  A caution with only 5 laps remaining sent all the lapped cars to the tail as per MSCS rules.  The race was then resolved with a dash to the finish without the presence of any slower traffic.

Kyle Cummins finished fourth in the feature and Jeff Bland Jr. rounded out the top five.  Hunter Schuerenberg led the second five consisting of Jonathan Hendrick, Seth Parker, second heat winner Blake Fitzpatrick, and Braylon Fitzpatrick.  Chase Stockon received the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award.  He regrouped to finish 11th in the feature after needing to visit the work area to replace a flat left rear.  Stockon also finished fifth in his heat despite the effects of a flat right front tire during the final lap.

MSCS Points leader Jon Stanbrough was the Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger for the night.  He improved 7 spots during the feature.  The feature could not have been better scripted for fans to enjoy.  It was a battle between the two different points leaders this season, a three time champion, and last year’s defending champion and winner Brady Short.

Two drivers had the misfortune to ride out flips during the racing action.  Donny Brackett’s car flipped in the hotly contested third heat race.  Chase Briscoe’s car flipped during the feature.  Both accidents were in turn two and no injuries were reported.

The Midwest Sprint Car Series resumes action Tuesday night at the Terre Haute Action Track in Terre Haute, IN, as part of a special NASCAR Night involving the UMP Modifieds.  The MSCS Sprints will return to Tri-State Speedway Saturday night June 30th for the MSCS Summer Blast!
