JONES TOPS MSCS SPRINTS ON NASCAR NIGHT AT TERRE HAUTE

Terre Haute, IN - June 19, 2012.  Levi Jones, of Olney, IL, won the 25 lap feature for the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series Tuesday evening at the Terre Haute Action Track.  It was NASCAR Night at the fairgrounds.  Jones was driving the Tony Stewart  Chevrolet Performance Racing entry.  Car owner Tony Stewart was also in competition driving the team’s second sprint car plus a modified in the UMP events on the special program.  The win was the 7th MSCS career victory for Jones.

Levi Jones started fourth in the MSCS feature line-up.  The front row consisted of Robert Ballou on the pole and Blake Fitzpatrick at the outside.  Chase Stockon accompanied Jones in the second row.  The stage was set for another classic battle on the only half mile facility MSCS competes at.

Robert Ballou was determined to finish in front and set a blistering pace.  He was in the Pottorff car for this outing.  Blake Fitzpatrick was still running second on lap 9 when his brother Braylon flipped in turn two collecting C.J. Leary in the process.  Levi Jones took second on the restart and began to challenge Ballou for the lead.  Terrific duals developed for all the top five spots.

A second red flag flew after Blake Fitzpatrick flipped in turn 2.  Jones would take the lead on lap 15 in turn one.  It was then he who would have to protect the lead as MSCS Points leader Jon Stanbrough arrived at the front.  Stanbrough created some opportunities to make a pass in the turns but Levi pulled him down the long straights.  Stanbrough would finish second.

Damion Gardner finished third in the feature.  The run from eighth in the starting lineup to third was good enough to earn him the Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race.  Ballou finished fourth and Chris Windom slipped into the top five as the race concluded.  The second five included Chase Stockon, Tony Stewart, Nic Faas, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Terry Babb.  The top ten were all on the lead lap.

Chet Williams was eleventh in the main event which earned him the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award.  Williams currently ranks as the leading rookie driver in the MSCS points.  The two qualifying heat races were won by Braylon Fitzpatrick and Robert Ballou.

NASCAR Nationwide driver Justin Allgaier won the 15 lap UMP Modified feature.  Tony Stewart was second.  Kenny Wallace was also on hand as fans got to see a trio of NASCAR drivers compete on the dirt!

The next MSCS race will be held at Tri-State Speedway on June 30th.  The MSCS Summer Blast comes at mid season and will pit the best drivers MSCS has to offer in competition to win the top prize of $2,500.  The UMP Open Wheel Modifieds will also be racing.
